 We LOVE you Jesus! Happy Valentine's Day!

2/14/2016

Each candle represents the light of a soul consecrated to Jesus, consoling Him by the tabernacle.Today is the anniversary when many of the Sisters of the Divine Redeemer first entered the convent to give their lives to Jesus, their Divine Spouse. In remembrance of this, we were blessed to be invited to join with them in a renewal of vows ceremony to pledge anew our love for Jesus. Thank you sisters for your inspiring witness of fidelity!

Happy St. Valentine's Day!

O give thanks to the Lord of lords,
for his steadfast love endures for ever;
to him who by understanding made the heavens,
for his steadfast love endures for ever;
the sun to rule over the day,
for his steadfast love endures for ever;
the moon and stars to rule over the night,
for his steadfast love endures for ever;
(Psalm 136: 3,5,8-9)

May you have a blessed day, rejoicing in God's love!

"The lady appeared and told me to look for a stream and wash in it and to see that the priests build a chapel there. I must also pray, she said, for the conversion of sinners. I asked her many times what she meant by that, but she only smiled. Finally with outstretched arms and eyes looking up to heaven she told me she was the Immaculate Conception." - Letter of St. Bernadette

Pope Francis has asked us to practice the spiritual and corporal works of mercy this Lent. Consider how you can instruct the ignorant, comfort the sorrorwful or counsel the doubtful by watching a video each week about the Bible and the Virgin Mary (http://www.bibleandthevirginmary.com/streaming) and encouraging your friends or family to likewise. It is that easy to do something beautiful for Lent, that will equip you to be another Christ to your neighbor by sharing the fruits of the compassion and love of Mary, our Mother. Register at the website to get links to the videos. This is a great way to be spiritual fed, while we fast from the things of the world. God bless you this Ash Wednesday!

Looking for something to do for Lent?

2/10/2016

The St. Paul Center for Biblical Theology run by Scott Hahn is offering a new series on Mary and the Bible for free video streaming beginning this Ash Wednesday. Normally you have to order the study, but the center is posting the lessons for free and they will be up for 2 weeks, before they are taken down and a new one will be added each week. There are 12 lessons.
Mary wants nothing more than to help us grow closer to her Son, so this isa great opportunity to grow closer to God, this Lent!
Go to the website to register and you will get emails: (be sure to confirm-it might go into spam)

a SICILIAN SAINT - St. Agatha!

2/5/2016

Picture

Today is the Feast Day of St. Agatha, a virgin martyr from Siciliy- the land where our community has its spiritual roots. Her name means good.

It is said of her, she was a “true virgin, she wore the glow of a pure conscience and the crimson of the Lamb’s blood for her cosmetics. Again and again she meditated on the death of her eager Lover. For her, Christ’s death was recent, his blood was still moist. Her robe is the mark of her faithful witness to Christ. It bears the indelible marks of his crimson blood and the shining threads of her eloquence. She offers to all who come after her these treasure of her eloquent confession.” (St. Methodius of Sicily)

The painting shows how St. Peter appeared to her in prison to heal her from the wound inflicted on her chest by her persecutors. (Alessandro Turchi - Saint Agatha Attended by Saint Peter and an Angel in Prison)

Besides being a patron saint of breast cancer, she is also remembered for her miraculous protection of Catania from the flow of lava from Mt. Etna that was soon to erupt. She is remembered in the Roman Canon of the Mass.

Did you ever wonder why there is a blessing of throats on the Feast of St. Blaise?

2/3/2016

Picture
 Usually this is done with two candles crossed during the blessing by the priest. It is traditionally believed that St. Blaise was a physician that later became a Bishop and was martyred. He is said to have cured a boy with a fishbone in his throat and became a popular saint to call upon to cure illness.

May St. Blaise bless you with good health in the coming year!
